You’ve seen the phrase across clean beauty blogs and product pages. But what does it actually mean? At Annmarie Skin Care, we think that’s a fair question, and we’re happy to give you a real answer.
This page is your direct line to our in-house skin experts: licensed professionals who work within our community every day, whose endorsement of our products is grounded in years of hands-on experience and a genuine commitment to clean beauty principles. Alongside our licensed estheticians, our full product line has been reviewed by a functional medicine doctor whose standard for ingredient safety reflects what she applies in clinical practice.
Skin Care Grounded in Professional Expertise
For us, “esthetician-approved” is not a phrase added at the end of a product launch. It is a practice woven into how we develop, evaluate, and stand behind every formula we make.
Our licensed in-house estheticians, Kate Callaway and Emily Haupt, host weekly virtual skin consultations with our community, answer real questions from real customers, and have spent years learning every formula in our line from the inside out.
Our full product line has also been reviewed and approved by Dr. Mariza Snyder, D.C., a functional medicine practitioner and women’s health expert with over 15 years of clinical experience. Her philosophy: ingredient safety is non-negotiable. Every formula we make is one we are proud to put in front of that scrutiny.
Meet the Experts Behind Our Standards
In addition to our in-house estheticians, Annmarie Skin Care collaborates with a broader network of licensed estheticians and skin professionals who contribute expertise across ingredient education, holistic skin wellness, and routine guidance.
Our product line is backed by these professionals whose expertise spans functional medicine, licensed esthetics, and holistic skin health.
Dr. Mariza Snyder, D.C. – Functional Medicine Practitioner
Dr. Mariza Snyder holds a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West, where she graduated cum laude, and a B.S. in Biochemistry from Mills College. She is also a certified functional medicine practitioner through the Institute for Functional Medicine, with additional certifications in nutrition and aromatherapy. Her practice, Pure and Simple Wellness, is based in Encinitas, California, where she has spent over 17 years working with women on hormone health, perimenopause, metabolic wellness, and the long-term impact of ingredients in personal care products.
She is the author of nine books on women’s health, including The Essential Oils Hormone Solution, a number one national bestseller, and her most recent title, The Perimenopause Revolution. Her podcast, “Energized with Dr. Mariza,” has surpassed 14 million downloads and has established her as one of the most recognized voices in women’s functional health. She has been featured on the Dr. Oz Show, Fox News Health, and in Oprah Magazine, Women’s Health, and Shape.
Her position on skin care is clear and consistent: ingredient safety is not optional. She is a vocal advocate for formulas free of endocrine disruptors, synthetic fragrance, and skin barrier-disrupting synthetics—the same standards that define every Annmarie Skin Care formula. Our full product line has been reviewed and approved by Dr. Snyder, who assessed each formula against the ingredient integrity criteria she applies in her clinical practice.
“Not all skin care is created equal. Too many formulas contain endocrine disruptors that weaken the skin barrier and trigger irritation. Ingredient transparency is non-negotiable.” (Dr. Mariza Snyder, D.C.)

The “Esthetician-Approved” Standard
Not every product earns the label. Here is the actual vetting process behind what it means to be esthetician-approved by our team.
There is a meaningful difference between a professional endorsement and a marketing claim. A professional endorsement means a licensed esthetician has used the product on real clients, assessed real results, and can personally stand behind both the formula and the experience it delivers.

Efficacy and Real-World Performance
Our estheticians evaluate products for how they actually perform across diverse skin types, tracking how customers respond, noticing what works for sensitive, dry, oily, and mature skin, and understanding where a formula shines.
Ingredient Integrity and Sensitivity Profile
Every formula is assessed for purity and compatibility: free from harsh surfactants, synthetic fragrance, and occlusive silicones. The standard is straightforward. If an esthetician would not use it in a professional facial, it does not belong in a home routine.
Long-Term Skin Health Over Quick Fixes
We choose formulas that nourish and protect over time, rather than deliver a dramatic one-day result that leaves skin depleted afterward. Sustainable improvement is always the goal.
Expert-Approved Across Every Product
This standard is not reserved for hero products. Every formula in the Annmarie Skin Care line has been evaluated, used, and endorsed by our licensed in-house estheticians. When Kate or Emily recommends something in a consultation, they are recommending something they genuinely stand behind. Our full line has also been reviewed and approved by Dr. Mariza Snyder, D.C., adding a functional medicine perspective to our ingredient safety standards.
Ingredients Our Estheticians Look For
Every botanical and active in our formulas is there for a reason. Here is what our team looks for, and why.

Barrier-Supporting Ingredients
The foundation of healthy skin is a resilient surface that holds moisture in and keeps environmental stressors out. Our formulas center around hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, saccharide isomerate, pineapple ceramides, jojoba oil, and vegan collagen prepeptides, each chosen to help support the skin’s natural moisture balance and contribute to a softer, more comfortable-feeling complexion.
Antioxidants: Vitamin C Sources and Polyphenols
Antioxidants help protect the appearance of skin from daily environmental stressors. Our formulas feature a stable, oil-soluble form of vitamin C (THDA), kakadu plum, and seabuckthorn berry, sourced for their potency and ability to help support a radiant, even-looking complexion without irritation.
Gentle Actives Over Aggressive Ones
Our estheticians consistently guide customers toward botanical alternatives that deliver visible improvements without compromising skin health. This includes our plant-based alternative to traditional retinol, our Bioactive A-Complex, as well as fruit-derived lactic acid, which gently exfoliates to reveal a smoother-looking surface.
Plant Cells
Plant cell biotechnology allows us to capture concentrated actives from rare botanicals sustainably. Madonna lily, narcissus, and lingonberry plant cells appear in our formulas to help support the look of skin vitality, radiance, and a more refined surface.

Ingredients Our Estheticians Often Avoid
What we leave out of our formulas is just as intentional as what we put in.
Harsh Surfactants
Sodium lauryl sulfate and related harsh detergents strip away the natural protective surface of skin, leaving it tight, dry, and often reactive. You can read more about why sodium lauryl sulfate is on our watch list. Our cleansers use gentle, plant-based cleansing systems instead.
Synthetic Fragrance
One of the most common triggers of skin sensitivity, synthetic fragrance is present in more products than most people realize. Our formulas use pure essential oils where scent plays a role, but never synthetic fragrance compounds.
Overuse of Strong Acids at Home
Glycolic acid and BHA can be useful tools in a professional setting. When used too frequently at home without guidance, however, they can disrupt the skin’s surface, increase sensitivity, and lead to skin that feels persistently reactive. Our fruit-derived lactic acid is formulated to deliver a smooth, refreshed result without that risk.
Occlusive Silicones
Silicones create a smooth texture by forming a film on the skin surface that limits normal moisture exchange. Over time, this can contribute to congestion and a dull appearance. Our formulas use plant oils that absorb into the skin to nourish from within, rather than simply coating the surface.
Why Estheticians Recommend Certain Products
Professional skin care advice is about understanding the skin, respecting its rhythms, and choosing products that genuinely support its long-term health. Knowing how to determine your skin type is often the first and most clarifying step.
- Skin barrier support before aggressive exfoliation. A resilient surface layer is always the first priority.
- Ingredient synergy over single hero ingredients. How ingredients work together matters more than any one star active.
- Consistency leads to predictable results. Real skin transformation happens over 4 to 12 weeks of consistent use.
- Formulas suited to a wide range of skin types, including sensitive and reactive skin.

Expert Knowledge Bank: Q&A
These are the questions our estheticians hear most often, answered honestly and without hype.
What does “esthetician-approved” actually mean?
At Annmarie Skin Care, it means licensed estheticians have used our products in real consultations, assessed how they perform across diverse skin types, and personally stand behind every formula. It is a professional endorsement, grounded in real-world experience.
How is it different from “dermatologist-tested”?
“Dermatologist-tested” generally means a product has been evaluated by a dermatologist for skin compatibility or safety. “Esthetician-approved” means licensed skin professionals have worked with the products directly, used them across a variety of skin types, and feel confident recommending them as part of a long-term skin care routine. Both perspectives can offer valuable insight into how products support the skin.
Can organic products really work as well as clinical formulas?
Effectiveness depends on concentration, bioavailability, and ingredient synergy, not on whether an ingredient is natural or synthetic. Our formulas are developed with the same rigor applied to clinical skin care: stability testing, optimal concentration, and real-world outcome measurement.
How long does it take to see results?
Immediate comfort and hydration can happen within hours. Real texture improvement begins at 4 to 6 weeks, after one full skin cell renewal cycle. Significant visible changes in the appearance of fine lines, skin tone, and resilience typically become apparent at 8 to 12 weeks of consistent use.
Do I need a full routine, or can I mix brands?
Ultimately, the products and brands you choose are personal, and many people build routines using products from multiple brands based on what works best for their skin and goals. While you do not need a full Annmarie Skin Care routine to see results, our formulas are intentionally developed around a shared ingredient and formulation philosophy designed to work synergistically within a complete routine. When mixing products across brands, formulas are not always created to complement one another due to differences in ingredients, exfoliation levels, textures, or formulation approaches, and you may want to avoid stacking conflicting actives in the same session. Understanding how to layer serums correctly is a helpful starting point. That said, many people still find combinations that work beautifully for their individual skin, and a simple routine centered on gentle cleansing, targeted treatments, and consistent hydration is often enough to support healthy-looking skin over time.
What is the difference between clean, organic, and natural skin care?
These terms are related, but they are not interchangeable. “Natural” generally refers to ingredients derived from nature, while “organic” refers more specifically to how ingredients are grown and processed, often through standards like USDA Organic or COSMOS. At the same time, some smaller farms and ingredient partners may follow organic or wildcrafted practices without pursuing formal certification. “Clean” skin care is typically centered around ingredient safety, sourcing standards, and formulation philosophy, though definitions can vary widely by brand. At Annmarie Skin Care, clean beauty has been our foundation since day one. Our formulas combine naturally derived ingredients and nature-sourced actives with organically grown and wildcrafted botanicals whenever possible, alongside rigorous ingredient screening standards designed to go beyond greenwashing. Many of our formulas are MADE SAFE® verified and supported by our commitment to transparent sourcing and ingredient integrity.
