Get the right tools

Use the right technique

Doing your own lunar haircut isn’t as challenging as you might think. First, brush your hair out. It’s extremely important to brush your hair well, and regularly. If you need a quality hair brush, check out this boar bristle brush.

After brushing, dampen your hair – not so it’s dripping wet, just damp throughout.

Now you’re ready to cut! Part your hair down the middle, and make sure you have a clip or hair tie to help section off your hair. Using the comb from your haircutting kit, section off your hair vertically. Take the first section, and while keeping your head level, pull the hair straight down to the floor. When you get to the end, pull a very small amount of hair and snip off the end. Repeat that for each section of hair. When you’re done, you can make sure your cut is even by comparing the lengths of the left and right sections.

Remember to be patient, go slow, and make small cuts. You don’t have to cut very much hair to see the effects. The purpose is not to cause drastic change, unless you want to. Even the smallest cuts (think: 1/16 inch) send a signal up your hair shaft and into your root, to start progress toward your desired hair goal.

Boost your cut with the right products
