Beautiful Voices is our ongoing blog series that highlights inspiring, empowering women. Our most recent Beautiful Voice is Maria Claps. See what she says when Annmarie asks her some questions about her own personal beauty.
Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is my parents. They’ve been married for almost 50 years and still truly like each other. They also are big believers in organic and holistic living, preferring to seek out natural remedies when needed, spending their dollars at family farms that care for the environment, giving to charities that make the world a better place for children and just being an amazing role model for how to live out one’s faith and love for humanity on a day in day out basis.
Where and when do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am hiking in the woods with my husband and sons. There is something very calming and grounding about being in nature and disconnecting with the electronic world.
What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty means being at peace with who you are, making the best of your traits and being kind. While we can all appreciate well-applied makeup and a fresh blowout, there is nothing as beautiful as a woman who is kind.
What’s your favorite beauty secret or tip?
Get sleep…it’s the hardest health change that my clients and myself struggle with. I think we don’t want to “miss a thing” or we are such high achievers and go-getters that it is hard to settle down at night. But there is no cream out there that can compete with a good night’s sleep.
What do you do when you want to pamper yourself?
I take a bath with Epsom salts and lavender oil and go to bed early!
How does Annmarie’s mission fit into your lifestyle?
I’ve been interested in natural skin care products for over two decades but the stuff 20 years ago left a lot to be desired. When I found ASC, I was immediately smitten with how lovely and effective the products were. I think if you are the type of person who buys grass-fed meat, joins a CSA for your vegetables, etc and then goes and puts harmful chemicals on your skin, then you are really missing a big part of the picture. Also, as a functional nutrition hormone coach, I work with a lot of women that are dealing with livers that are functioning less than optimally and have issues with estrogen dominance. I gently explain that the beauty care products that they are using could be contributing to their hormone problems. Most women get it and when they begin to make the switch over to ASC products, they are thrilled with the opportunity to pamper themselves while keeping their body’s detox pathways open and clear.
Isn’t she beautiful?
