Beautiful Voices is our ongoing blog series that highlights inspiring, empowering women. Our most recent Beautiful Voice is Connie Trowbridge. See what she says when Annmarie asks her some questions about her own personal beauty.
Connie is a mom, wife, wellness writer and health devotee. At 23 years old, her doctors recommended a hysterectomy to get rid of pre-cancerous cells that had plagued her for seven years. Instead, she took control of her own health, became immersed in all things wellness, and healed her body from illness in one short year. Inspired by her own health crisis, Connie decided to devote her life to becoming an authority in the health and wellness community. Her mission in life is to guide others in achieving their goals through easy and realistic measures. She now spends her day loving life, creating miracles, and showing others how to do the same.
What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
I had a very abusive childhood, and it integrated in me this negativity like none other. I was never positive, always depressed, and constantly believing the worst was about to happen to me. Overcoming my negative mindset was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. And that includes a 24-hour, medication free labor and childbirth!
My negative thinking affected my job, marriage and home life. The saying really is true: “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” Eventually I realized that something had to give. I didn’t want to live a life full of misery and depression. I wanted to LIVE the one and only life I had been given.
I turned to people that I admired, and took small (sometimes itsy, teeny) actionable steps to changing my mentality. Instead of trying to overhaul my life all at once, which would inevitably lead to burn out, I took things one-step at a time. When I had mastered one goal (i.e writing every evening three things I was grateful for) I moved on to the next. This allowed me to create new habits and sustain my new way of being
What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty means living your truth, honoring your commitments to yourself, leading a life of authenticity, and sharing your gifts with the world. Beauty is created when we give someone a hug, help someone with their groceries, hold a child’s hand, or make our family a meal. Your actions—the way you live your life—creates beauty all around us.
What’s your favorite beauty secret or tip?
If I were stranded on a desert island, as long as I had some coconut oil, I would be happier than a pig in mud. My frizzy & curly hair turns into smooth waves when I run just a dab through my strands. In the winter months, I use coconut oil to drench my skin and make it silky smooth. Instead of buying lip balm after lip balm, I put a little coconut oil on my lips and pucker up! It truly is a multi-use beauty secret!
What do you do when you want to pamper yourself?
Taking care of me is the best thing I can do to help others. When I am functioning at my best, I can better serve those around me. In order to keep me running at my optimal level, I indulge in monthly massages. These massages are healing and rejuvenating. I give myself the gift of health by fueling my body with Organic, non-GMO foods. These foods are chock full of nutrients and vitamins that not only give me energy, but heal from the inside out, and protect against disease.
I get a full eight hours of sleep at night. This is non-negotiable. I don’t care how long my to do list, I make sure to give my body the rest it needs to rejuvenate and repair. When life gets hectic, sleep is the first thing people cut out in an attempt to give themselves more hours in the day. What this does is take away from your body and ultimately your health. We need enough, quality sleep to perform our best, to feel our greatest, and to LIVE our one and only life.
How does Annmarie’s mission fit into your lifestyle?
Our skin is our largest organ. Many of us scrutinize what we eat, how many calories something is, or how our butts look in skinny jeans, but rarely do we pay attention to what we put ON our skin. People don’t realize that what we put on our skin is just as important as what we take internally. Our skin immediately absorbs whatever we bring it into contact with. Annmarie uses high quality, organic, and pure ingredients—ingredients I am proud to use and share. Instead of creating another product line that brings the consumer into contact with toxic chemicals, she created a line that heals and brings life back to our toxic laden skin.
What are your words of wisdom to other beauties out there?
We have this one and only life to live. Don’t wait until tomorrow to begin living it. Start making your dreams happen NOW! Now is the time to live a life that motivates you, that inspires you, that has you jumping out of bed instead of hiding under the covers. Begin living this one and only life that you have been blessed with.
Isn’t she beautiful?
